About A.C.T.S.

Dorothy Hyde-Williams founded the Nathaniel J. Williams Foundation when her son Nate was killed in an accident at the age of 23. Doing business as Assistance Canine Training Services (A.C.T.S.), the Foundation was founded with a mission of training service dogs for people with physical disabilities, and therapy dogs for professionals working with people who may benefit from animal assisted therapy.

Dorothy started breeding Golden Retrievers in 1994. Over the years, she built a reputation for producing smart, calm, and trainable dogs. In 2001 she donated and raised one of her puppies to a local service dog organization. In the years following she raised and donated a number of other puppies to the same organization.

Dorothy also started obedience training classes for the public and has been a successful trainer for a number of years. Her practical approach to dog training has made her popular with local veterinarians, pet shop owners, and groomers, who recommend her services regularly.

After years of dog training, breeding, and service dog work, Dorothy, started considering the idea of starting her own service dog training organization. With the death of her son, she made the decision to move forward with her dream. With the help of friends and family, Dorothy created the Nathaniel J. Williams Foundation, doing business as A.C.T.S., in Nate’s memory.

In 2007 the Foundation became a 501(c)(3) non-profit and in 2009 the first service dogs were placed.
