Herbie Pit Bull Mix Dog Success Story

A  local family from Deer  Park Texas   found themselves with a new addition to their household: Herbie, a seven-week-old Pit Bull mix puppy.

Before Herbie, the Q Family   had another dog named Buster who was recently put to sleep. Soon after, their other dog, Tamara, seemed to be depressed and missing her former housemate, so they decided to search out a new partner for her.

A search on the Deer Park Animal Shelter’s Facebook page led them to Herbie’s picture, where they read his story of being malnourished.

This is Herbie. He is a Pit Bull mix. He came to us almost starved to death. He is very shy and needs a special person to take their time with him. We have worked hard to get him to gain weight but he is still thin. I love his little heart nose.Herbie Pit Bull Mix Dog Success Story rescue dog pet adoption

A quick drive to the shelter the next day resulted in them taking ownership of Herbie. Once in his new house, Herbie and Tamara hit it off, leading to eventual end of Tamara’s sadness.
“We love this little puppy,”  the new  dog mom  said. “He has brought so much joy to my husband and I and our older dog Tamara. Thank you Deer Park Animal Shelter!”
According  to a local volunteer  with the Deer Park Animal Shelter, Herbie – like many other animals received at the shelter – was in pretty bad shape when he arrived, but he was checked over and given time to get his strength back before being adopted by the Q family.
“Animals that are adopted from the shelter all come from different environments prior to their adoption, which is a consideration new pet owners should consider prior to adoption,” she said. “We are very grateful that the Q Family   home was a good fit for both Herbie and their previous dog.”

I seem to be mostly house-trained and love my walks. I would love a home with someone who is home a lot but I would not do well in a home with small children because I tend to protect my toys if you try to take them away from me

The shelter recently shared that Ray was adopted

Ray’s adoption was finalized this week! He is a very happy camper in his new home in Hull with his mom & dad as their one & only!

Scituate Animal Shelter

A bequest from Eleanor Haughey, a Scituate resident and quiet supporter of the Friends of the Scituate Shelter, Inc. made the dream of the Scituate Animal Shelter a reality! Through her legacy, funds were made available for the 1992 construction of a no-kill shelter, first located on a town parcel on the Driftway and lovingly named the Eleanor R. Haughey Animal Shelter.

As the Shelter grew, it became necessary to expand from our humble beginnings on the Driftway. Through the compassion, generosity, hard work and drive of all of our wonderful supporters and volunteers, we were able to relocate to our current address at 780 Chief Justice Cushing Highway (Rt. 3A) in Scituate, Massachusetts.

If you are looking to adopt

We provide exceptional guidance in helping you to select the right pet for you and your family. Our Shelter Director knows each animal “personally” and will get to know you too! This way, we create the best fit for both the new owner and the animal. Our ultimate goal is to match the right animal with the right “forever family”.

Our animals have been thoroughly screened. Every animal goes home with all medical records received during his/her time at the shelter, and many come with previous veterinary records which are forwarded to the new owner. All cats and kittens over 6 months of age are spayed or neutered, vaccinated against rabies and distemper, and screened for FIV and FELV, in addition, all felines are de-wormed and de-flea’d. Dogs and puppies over 6 months of age are spayed or neutered, vaccinated against rabies and distemper, and are screened for heartworm. In addition, our dogs’ behavior and temperament is professionally evaluated by our trainer. Every dog has a “report card” which highlights the animal’s personality and some considerations for a new owner. To help you find the best fit, we advise you on categories like energy level, leash manners, how they react to children, cats and other dogs. Each animal that is adopted from our shelter goes home with a free bag of Science Diet pet food.

Dakota Shih Tzu Mix Dog Pet Adoption Success

Forever Fido Rescue in Los Angles California recently shared the story of Dakota.  Dakota is a beautiful little Shih Tzu Mix we rescued from the euthanasia list at a high kill shelter. This is a video showing her incredible before and after!

Dakota was finally adopted by her foster mom but shared some pictures and updates along the way

Just look at our little teddy bear face, Dakota relaxing with her ball! We are so happy to see  13717460_1284442588262540_958922323686202802_othis sweet girl coming out of her shell. She is following her foster mama around the house and so happy to be getting love and attention for what we imagine is the first time in her life.  She’s just too cute for words and very easygoing. She loves everyone and is good with kids, cats and dogs.

This smile is now a constant and it makes us smile everyday knowing she went from being a raggedy mop that could barely stand to this muffin face that is full of life now! What a difference some time, love and patience can make. Dakota is still up for adoption, which we are truly baffled by. She is the sweetest little babe, gets along great with kids and other dogs and just wants to give all the love in the world.

Dakota and all of us at FFR want to say a HUGE MEGA THANK YOU to all that have played a 14330169_1336742306365901_1573344669100764528_npart in both helping Dakota get healthy and bringing her to her FOREVER HOME! Yes, you heard right; Dakota’s foster mom has decided that she just cannot do without this little nugget in her life and is adopting her – she was home all along! What a journey this special well deserving angel has had. She truly shows us what rescue is all about and why we do this very difficult and emotional work. Dakota is a shining example of bravery, forgiveness and resilience. To know how far she has come from her days in a high kill shelter, painfully matted and covered in her own feces to now being quite the little Instagram model and living the GOOD life with her new pack

About Labrador Retriever Rescue

Labrador Retriever Rescue serves only Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Labs come into our program only from these states and may be adopted into homes only within this area.

The reason for this restriction is simple: Because we provide hands-on evaluation, care, and follow-up, we need to be within reasonable geographic range of our Labs.

For example, all adopters receive a home study to ensure proper placement. In addition, our Labs are fostered in natural family settings before they’re adopted to help with the evaluation and placement process. Finally, although it’s very rarely necessary, we will take back a Lab if the adoption doesn’t work out. For all of these reasons, we need our Labs and their adoptive homes to be within driving distance.
